The Chevrolet Tahoe you see above made Chevy manufacturing history earlier this week when it became the 11 millionth vehicle to roll off the line at Chevrolet’s Arlington Texas Assembly plant. This plant first opened in 1954, and among other vehicles, has produced more than 2.5 million full-size Chevrolet SUVs. Nearly 50% of the full-size SUVs sold in the United States are Chevrolets, and together with their GMC cousins, General Motors and the Arlington Assembly are responsible for 75% of all full-size SUVs sold to retail customers in the US. “Chevrolet has led the full-size utility segment in sales for 42 consecutive years by focusing on our customers and providing a range of confident, capable and connected vehicles to move a lot of people and cargo,” said Eric Stanczak, chief engineer for Full-Size Trucks and SUVs. We already know that the Chevrolet Tahoe is a powerful family hauler with plenty of passenger and cargo room and towing power. Now, thanks to the J.D. Power 2017 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study, the Tahoe shows that it has brains to back up that brawn. J.D. Power measures drivers’ experiences with vehicle technologies after 90 days of ownership and ranks vehicles and technologies based on these responses. We are pleased to report that the Chevy Tahoe came out on top of its segment of large vehicles, thanks to user-friendly features like the MyLink infotainment system, OnStar, and compatibility with smartphone apps Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tahoe also earned points for available advanced safety technologies like Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Chevrolet has just announced a new special edition for the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, the Custom Edition, for active families who want an SUV with towing capability without breaking the bank. The Tahoe’s best towing capabilities have usually been reserved for the higher trim levels which include a lot of extra features that not all SUV shoppers wanted or needed. The Tahoe Custom adds 6,600 pounds of towing capacity to the Tahoe LS, providing plenty of towing power at a lo MSRP of $44,995. “The Tahoe Custom is a response to strong customer demand for Tahoe, as well as the full-size SUV segment moving upmarket,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Trucks marketing director. “Customer appetite for features like heated and cooled seats, adaptive cruise control and a head-up display created an unmet need in the marketplace for customers who want the cargo and towing capability of a full-size SUV to go camping, boating or off-roading but don’t necessarily want all of the option content offered on a Tahoe Premier.” Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort, Lansing and Bradley has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a great selection of Chevy Tahoes which the Custom edition is expected to join next month.
How impressed are Chevy buyers with their new Chevrolets? If the J.D. Power 2017 Initial Quality Study is an indication, it’s safe to say that they are extremely impressed. Three Chevrolet models come out on the top of their segments and four more land within the top three of their respective segments. The Chevy Silverado is a double winner, leading in both light-duty and heavy-duty segments. Chevy trucks excel in the midsize segment as well, where the Colorado placed second. If you’re looking for an SUV, Chevrolet has an award winner at both ends of the spectrum, as the Chevy Equinox places for compact SUVs and the Tahoe is #2 in large SUVs. But it isn’t just the big guys where Chevrolet excels – the Chevrolet Sonic also brought home the top Initial Quality award for small cars and the Chevy Cruze took second place among compacts. The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is based on problems experienced by new car owners after 90 days of ownership with the segment leaders being the vehicles with the fewest reported issues. Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort, Lansing and Bradley has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a huge selection of these award winning vehicles.
Earlier today, Chevrolet introduced a new special edition soon to become available for the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban– the Rally Sport Truck or RST edition. J.D. Power and Associates have just released the results of their 2017 Vehicle Dependability study and we are pleased to report that four different Chevrolet models have come out on top of their respective segments. The Chevy Camarohas earned their top ranking in the Midsize Sporty Car segment for a remarkable five years in a row. For the second year in a row, the Silverado HD was named the most dependable Large Heavy Duty Pickup. The Chevy Sonic landed at the top of the list for the Small Car segment and the Chevy Tahoe leads all Large SUVs. This study, now in its 28thyear, ranks three-year-old vehicles based on problems experienced during the past 12 months by their original owners. “We find buyers are increasingly avoiding models with poor reputations for dependability, so manufacturers can’t afford to let quality slip, particularly on their best sellers,” said Dave Sargent, vice president, global automotive at J.D. Power. “While many expensive and niche vehicles do have excellent quality, the fact is that most consumers are shopping in the high-volume mainstream segments. The good news is that consumers don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a very dependable vehicle.” Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort and Lansing has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a great selection of these award-winning vehicles!
Every year Kelley Blue Book compiles a list of the vehicles they most highly recommend for families, and we are pleased to report that once again the Chevrolet Tahoe has earned a spot in their 12 Best Family Cars. KBB was impressed by the Chevy Tahoe’s comfortable ride quality and tow-capable powertrain. But the bulk of their kudos go to the variety of family-friendly features the Tahoe offers including a roomy cabin that seats up to nine and tri-zone climate control to keep all those folks comfortable, as well as the host of technology possibilities afforded by built-in Wi-Fi, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility, and ample USB ports. Overall, KBB says, “the 2017 Tahoe still represents the single best total execution of a large SUV thanks to its superb combination of style, comfort and capability.” That must be why they also named the Tahoe in their Best Buy Awards earlier this year. Chevrolet has crunched the numbers and found that Chevy drivers used 4,220,684 gigabytes of in-vehicle data in 2016, almost double the amount for 2016. The whole Chevy lineup of cars, trucks, and SUVs offers a 4g LTE Wi-FGI connection capable of connecting up to 7 devices so Chevy owners can take their internet connection on the go for work or play. And no Chevy owners made better use of that connection than Tahoe and Suburban drivers who used 713,669 gigabytes of data in 2016, a 260 percent increase over 2015. “Chevrolet has continually invested in new safety, convenience and connected technologies across our trucks, utilities and cars,” said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and global head of Chevrolet. “We are attracting new buyers to Chevrolet by offering technologies like OnStar 4G LTE not available on competitive models. New owners are in turn more likely to become repeat Chevrolet customers as these features become an integral part of their day-to-day lives.” Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort & Lansing has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a great selection of Chevy Tahoes and Suburbans loaded with the latest technology.
With their impressive size and refined styling, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are already sophisticated, imposing figures. For 2017 they’re about to become even more dramatic with the announcement of Midnight Editions coming to the two big SUVs for the 2017 model year. Both models will offer the Z71 Midnight package and the LT Midnight package, including black wheels, roof rack cross rails, and black Chevrolet “bow tie” logos. The Z71 Midnight includes all of the features found on the Z71 Package including off-road tuned suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, off-road tubular assist steps, fog lamps, tow hooks, sill plates, and more. With nearly 60,000 units sold through the month of August, the Chevrolet Tahoe remains America’s best-selling full size SUV. And for good reason – the Tahoe’s 355 horsepower V8 engine has towing power for 8,600 pounds, making it perfect for family vacations with a boat, camper, or trailer. With available seating for up to nine people, or 94.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down, the Chevy Tahoe can comfortably accommodate countless combinations of passengers and cargo for trips across country or across town. A responsive transmission and imperceptible cylinder deactivation help make the most of every drop of fuel yielding an EPA estimated 18 miles per gallon which, paired with a 26-gallon fuel tank, means that you’ve got 475 miles before you have to find the next gas station.
